Ministry of the Word: *Where your treasure is, there is your heart also
- We all know that Jesus is telling us that we should love God above all other things. God gave us life and salvation.
1. Two kinds of treasure (19-21)
- Everyone has their own "god". Money, beauty, intelligence, influence (influencers!), pride, or even respect. These things all fade, and we cannot take any of them beyond the grave. These are but instruments to serve God on earth.
- Jesus makes it clear that we should focus on building up our treasures in heaven.
- Money is a gift from God, for us to use for good. We are to give to others, and use our money to help others.
- Our reward from God is one of grace.
- On the day of judgement, some will stand empty-handed.
2. Need for clear perspective (22-23)
- Many people want to love God and money too. But time and time again the bible shows us example of why this does not work.
3. You can only serve one Master (24)
- With everything God has done for us, how could we possibly split our attention away from God? Why would we?
- Heaven has found it's treasure on earth; it is us, sinners. Jesus made us the treasure through his death and sacrifice.
