Ministry of the Word: Who is the Lord’s Supper for?

1. Sinners who love the LORD must come

  • It's very clear from 1 Corinthians 11 that the Lord's Supper is a serious matter. This makes it seem like the Lord's Supper is elitist or exclusive in a negative way.
  • But the reality is that everyone that has ever lived is sinful and falls short of the righteousness that God requires. We hear of this in the reading of the form for the celebration of the Lord's Supper.
  • But the purpose and meaning of the language is not that it is meant to be a kind of policing of attendance to the Lord's Supper.
  • Rather, attendance to the Lord's Supper is meant to be introspective. Each of us is meant to look inward and ask ourselves if we should be attending.

2. Sinners who reject him must not

  • The blood of Christ can make the most sinful person clean before the Lord.
