Ministry of the Word: Jesus Christ nourishes us with his body and blood

  • In the early days of the Church, the practice of Christians calling themselves "brothers and sisters" led people outside the Church to think that Christians were marrying their relatives.
  • There were also rumors that Christians were cannibals, because of the "blood and flesh" of Jesus Christ as mentioned in the practice of the Lord's Supper.
  • What exactly is the Lord's Supper?
  1. It is miraculous
  • Transubstantiation. The Roman Catholic Church believes that the bread and wine transforms into the actual blood and flesh of Jesus Christ.
  • In many religions, idols are a kind of vehicle for transferring the power of the god that it represents to the people worshiping it. But this is not how the Lord's Supper works.
  • The Lord's Supper unites us with God. But it's much simpler than transubstantiation or idols. We are united with God and receive His grace merely by believing in Him.
  • We experience a spiritual and not a physical connection to God.
  1. It is powerful and effective
  • The Lord's Supper is not about the bread and wine. But it is about the physical act of eating.
  • The act of eating directs our mind to Jesus and the sacrifice he made.
  • The Lord's Supper provides a powerful testimony of our salvation.
  • God Himself provides us the food and drink as a promise of the real blessing He has given in terms of the sacrifice of His Son on the cross for our sins.
